About the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant (NDMG)

The Non-Domestic Microgen Grant provides government support for the installation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in commercial and not-for-profit settings. It’s designed to help reduce electricity costs, increase security of supply, and support Ireland’s renewable energy targets. Eligible applicants can claim funding for systems up to a maximum of 1000kWp — with the highest grant value capped at €162,600.

Why choose solar PV for your organisation?

Solar PV (photovoltaic) systems convert sunlight into electricity and can deliver significant long-term savings for organisations of all sizes. Whether you're a small business, school or farm, you’ll benefit from:

  • Lower electricity bills
  • Improved energy independence
  • Eligibility for SEAI grant funding
  • Support for Ireland’s climate goals
  • A positive environmental image for your organisation

Grant values for commercial solar PV

The grant value depends on the system size, measured in kilowatt peak (kWp). Here’s how much support you could receive:

System SizeGrant Value
1kWp €900
2kWp €1,800
3kWp €2,100
4kWp – 6kWp €2,400
7kWp – 20kWp €300 per kWp
21kWp – 200kWp €200 per kWp
201kWp – 1000kWp €150 per kWp

Example: A 30kWp system (approx. 75 panels) would qualify for an €8,600 grant. Larger installations, such as 1000kWp systems, can receive the full €162,600 grant.

Who can apply?

This scheme is open to a wide range of sectors and organisations:

  • Private businesses
  • Farms and agricultural enterprises
  • Public sector bodies
  • Schools and educational institutions
  • Community centres and non-profit organisations

How to apply

Follow these steps to successfully apply for the Non-Domestic Microgen Grant:

  1. Choose a registered SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen (Solar PV) Company and sign a formal contract.
  2. Apply to SEAI for a grant and wait for your Letter of Offer. Do not start works until you receive this letter.
  3. Your installer submits a connection request to ESB Networks. This can take at least 20 working days.
  4. Once ESB approves the connection, the system can be installed.
  5. Your installer uploads all evidence of works to SEAI, including supporting documentation.
  6. SEAI processes the grant payment, typically within 4–6 weeks after all documents are submitted.

Important reminders

To avoid delays and ensure your grant payment is successful, keep these tips in mind:

  • Double check your bank details — incorrect BIC/IBAN can delay payment
  • Encourage your installer to upload documents within 1–3 days of installation
  • Grants are only paid after full documentation is received — and subject to inspection
  • If your organisation receives more than €10,000 in state support annually, a Tax Clearance Certificate may be required. You can apply via the Revenue Online Service (ROS).
